Observers Validate Panama Elections
Panama - The Organization of
American States observation mission reported
that the Panamanian elections were carefully
planned by authorities. Mission head Jose Octavio Bordon also noted the speed in
giving the results and the recognition by
the opponents and the current
administration.
In addition, he mentioned as positive
factors the correct management of the voting
tables by experienced staffers.
He noted the decision of the electoral
authorities to make public, in real time,
the results of the preliminary counting from
the report of the first voting table.
He said debate has been generated between
political parties and civil society about
free nominations of the candidates, since
Panamanian legislation does not allow this
step for the offices of president and vice
president. |
