Argentine President Announces Plan Against Insecurity

Buenos Aires -  Argentine President Cristina Fernandez announced on Friday a new "integral plan of security" to be implemented in the suburbs of Buenos Aires and the province of Mendoza in east Argentina.

Fernandez said that the government will add around 7,000 policemen to patrol both zones, and there will also be new investment plans on technology and logistic so as to combat the country's security problem.

Out of the 7,000 policemen, 5,500 will be retired staff from the federal forces of security, while the rest will be policemen from Buenos Aires that recently graduated.

Though there is not yet a timetable for the program, Fernandez said that it will be carried out as soon as possible.

During the last months, tens of policemen and civilians were killed in Argentina, triggering strong protests from citizens demanding more protection.
