Candidate As Well As President, Says Correa
Quito - Ecuadorian
President Rafael Correa, who is also a
presidential candidate, said on Wednesday it
was not easy to play the two roles well at
the same time.
"Spending most of my time on the management
of the state, I have little time to
campaign... and am also under attack by
other candidates," Correa said in a radio
station interview.
He said most of the national media
(right-wing) is against him.
Correa's political opposition has accused
him of using the administration's resources
to mobilize public support.
Correa refuted the accusation. He pointed
out that former U.S. President George W.
Bush and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe
also have been presidents as well as
candidates.
"If I could chose I prefer just to be a
candidate, but I have no choice," he said.
According to the latest poll, Correa is the
leading candidate with 52 percent support.
The presidential election will be held on
April 26. |
