Votes Arrive in Panama
Panama - The Election Court reported
that the first votes cast by Panamanians
residing abroad arrived in the country, as
part of the process prior to the May 3
general elections.
According to the institution, two ballots
from the United States and Ecuador arrived
in the country and were placed in a special
ballot box of acrylic.
A commission will be visit the facilities of
the National Post Office to collect the
votes arriving in the country, which will
placed in the ballot box every night.
The initial phase of the process included
sending the ballots to other countries,
where some 1,706 Panamanians have registered
to vote. The ballots will be received until
the very day of elections (May 3).
The Election Court will set up a special
vote-counting board to receive and count the
votes cast by Panamanian living abroad, who
will elect the president, the vice president
and 623 deputies.
They will also elect 75 mayors, 71
legislators at the National Assembly, 20
Deputies to the Central American Parliament
(PARLACEN) and seven council people, and
their substitutes. |
