Culture of Panama Shot Dead In Assault
Panama - The
director of the National Institute of
Culture (INAC) of Panama, Anel Omar
Rodriguez, and two other people were shot
dead Tuesday morning in an assault when
criminals robbed a car in the Panamanian
capital.
The other two victims beside Rodriguez
include one security agent and one of the
suspects, while other three suffered injury
and are now hospitalized, according to local
radio reports.
The INAC director was shot dead at scene by
a stray bullet when passing by the National
Beneficence Lottery headquarters, where the
robbery attempt took place, Minister of
Government and Justice of Panama, Dilio
Arcia, told local media.
Witnesses said that a group of law offenders
intended to rob a vehicle property of
security company Brink's, and confronted
reaction from security agents.
So far, one of the suspects has been locked
up and several others were hurt during
exchange of fire, according to the minister.
The rising insecurity rate is becoming a
worrying issue to Panama, a country
traditionally considered safe in comparison
with other Caribbean countries.
