The Juan Santamaría (San
Jose) Airport May Actually Get Finished
Houston Airport System (HAS) announced yesterday that it has secured
the required financing to complete the Juan Santamaría (San Jose)
international airport from the International Finance Corporation (IFC),
a member of the world Bank Group.
HAS says the financing packaged will inject us$40 million dollars
for the completion of phases one and two of the San Jose airport.
The financing approval complies with the requirement by the
Contraloría General de la República (CGR) which had asked HAS to
have in place before it would be authorized to begin the work.
González said that her ministry will be filing an addendum to the
HAS contract with the CGR that her officials will be moving fast
forward to get the process moving ahead and for HAS to begin the
work as the approval is granted.
González added that if the CGR rejects the addendum the only option
left is for the government to assume control of the airport and
finance the completion of the airport construction and modernization
with financing the government can secure.
The minister was clear that this is the last attempt to hand over
the airport to a private company.
Minister González added that the construction company, EDICA, as of
yesterday began mobilizing equipment to the airport in anticipation
of the all the approvals. The minister added that the some 300 jobs
will be created.
