Venezuela Combats Gender Violence

Caracas - Venezuela'ss National Institute of Women (INAMUJER) announced creation of Gender Violence Attention Units in 10 zones of the Metropolitan Police in the capital.

The National Defender of Rights of Women of the institution, Neyla Ysturdes explained that the Metropolitan police receives charges established in the Organic Law of Women's Rights for a Life Free Violence.

Ysturdes added that INAMUJER proposes integrating efforts and resources to create centers of primary attention with participation of Community Councils, Institutions and social organizations using police offices.

She explained that the country has a national legal order that guarantees protection of the rights of women.

The announcement was made to reporters at the end of the meeting of Ysturdes with the general command of the Metropolitan Police, Carlos Alberto Mesa and high officials of the Supreme Court of Justice and United Nations Development Program (UNDP)
