Nación Announces Cutbacks and Layoffs
The Grupo Nación, publishers of the daily La Nación, Al Día, La Teja and Vuelta en U, yesterday announced an austerity plan that will see the layoff of some 100 people in various departments, including magazines like SOSHO, Perfil and radio programs like Los 40 Principales and Bésame.

The company said it has to cut its costs by 15% to weather the financial crisis.

Nación officials yesterday would not comment on the announcement.

The measures include cuts in the printing of Vuelta en U, the Áncora insert that is a staple on Sundays will now be incorporated in the regular pages, regional supplements will also disappers, the Zurquí, a children's supplement, will also be cut.

There will be no more overtime, costs will be cut by 15%, salary increases will be locked in at 5% and at least 100 workers will be standing in the unemployment line.

Rumoured to go as the journalists like Herrera, Luis Rojas, Ana Lupita Mora, Andrés Formoso, Gabriela Flores and Alexandra Valverde, among others.

The magazines En Su Casa, Compras, Ámbitos and Su Cantón will no longer be published and cutbacks are expected at the adult oriented magazines, SOHO.
