La Paz - Bolivian
President Evo Morales on Monday urged U.S.
president Barack Obama to listen to all
other participants at the upcoming Summit of
the Americas, though Morales himself
cancelled his trip to the summit.
"There is not a gendarme president. We all
have to listen to each other. That would be
more respectful for each other among
presidents of the Americas, and President
Obama also must do that," Morales said.
Morales said the Summit will be the right
occasion to discuss the end of the U.S.
embargo against Cuba, taking into account
that many South American countries joined
the petition to end it.
The 5th Summit of the Americas will be held
from April 17 to 19in the city of Puerto
Espana in Trinidad and Tobago.
This Summit will be Obama's first formal
approach to South America.
Morales canceled his attendance of the
summit because he is on a hunger strike, a
measure to press Bolivia's Congress to
approve an electoral law to hold early
general elections.
