Police Concerned Over
Theft Of 21 Firearms
The Fuerza Pública
(national police force)
is on full alert
following the robbery of
21 firearms stolen over
the weekend, and could
be used against them by
criminals. The haul
includes 19 revolvers
and 2 shotguns were
stolen from a
company in La Uruca.
Erick Lacayo, director
of the Fuerza Pública
criticized the company
for its lack of security
and that the firearms
could be used to commit
crimes and against the
police.
The company was
identified as DIPO, a
food supply distributor,
and was using the
security services of
G4S. However, the
security measures were
not far enough,
according to Lacayo.
Lacayo added that the
revolvers are sought by
criminals, making them
one of the favourite
arms.
"On average this year we
have confiscated some
2.500 firearms, a large
number for a country
that does not
manufacture weapons and
is not a big importer",
said Lacayo.
