Blackberry On Sale in
Costa Rica Next Month
The Blackberry is set to
hit, legally, the Costa
Rican market next month
as the Instituto
Costarricense de
Electricidad (ICE) -
state telecom - will be
offering the sale of
equipment for the first
time in its history.
The Blackberry, in
addition to being a
cellular telephone, is
an important business
tool for many of today's
executives. And that is
the market ICE will be
focusing on, as the
units come with a hefty
price tag of ¢400.324
colones (us$727).
The Blackberry allows
surfing of the internet,
sending and receiving
email and many other
multimedia features.
"Research in Motion",
the company that is
launching the product
said purchases of the
Blackberry can be made
only at the ICE agencies
in San Pedro, La Sabana,
Cartago, Cuidad Quesad
and Liberia, though it
can be connected
"officially" at any ICE
agency.
The "official" refers to
that a subscriber can
take their Blackberry or
any other cellular
telephone purchased in
Costa Rica to an ICE
agency for connection.
Cellular phones, like
the iPhone or Blackberry
that is not purchased in
Costa Rica, evidenced by
a receipt of purchase,
will not allow to be
connected to the ICE
network.
For clarity, customers
of cellular phones like
the iPhone, connect to
ICE with an "official" phone
and then place the SIM
card in the unit. The
use of such equipment is
not illegal, however,
ICE will not respond to
any service problems,
usually blaming the unit
and that it is not "homolgado"
by the institution. |
