Heavy Rain Floods La Pampa (Guanacaste)
The tropical depression "Hanna" has parts of Guanacaste and the Central Pacific coast under water, as the Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) - national emergency commission - began providing assistance to the affected and issued a "red" alert for the province.

The area rivers overflowed their banks and the heavy, constant rain, flooded many of the lower areas in the vicinity of Filadelfia and Santa Cruz.

According to the CNE, 600 people are already being housed in shelters.

The areas under the "red" alert in Guanacaste are: La Cruz, Carrillo, Liberia, Santa Cruz, Bagaces, Nicoay, Cañas, Hojancha, Tilarán, Nandayure, Abangares; while in the Central Pacific the "red alert is for the areas of Orotina, San Mateo, Puntarenas, Parrita, Esparza, Aguiree, Garabito and Montes de Oro.

In the communities of Filadelfia, Santa Cruz, Liberia, Cañas, Bebedero and La Cruz, some 14 rivers have overflowed their banks and have many of the homes in the area under water.

Many of the parts of the highway that connects Santa Cruz Liberia is under water and making transit through area difficult.

In the area of Miramar, north of Puntarenas, 35 families are isolated when a water main and 200 metres of the local road was washed away.

The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) reports that 12 local bridges are under water.
