Ibero-Am Summit vs. US
Cuba Blockade
SAN SALVADOR - The Ibero-American
Summit, to be concluded
Friday in San Salvador,
rejected the US-imposed
blockade on Cuba and the
extra-territorial
Helms-Burton Act.
"Unilateral coercive
measures that affect the
peoples" welfare and
obstruct integration
processes are
unacceptable, contrary
to free exchange and the
basic tenets of trade,"
the document says.
The heads of State and
Government requested
that Washington
fulfilled what had been
stipulated in 17
resolutions approved by
the UN General Assembly,
which demands the end of
that policy, contrary to
international law.
Several officials spoke
out against the
economic, trade and
financial siege against
the Caribbean island for
almost five decades.
Bolivia"s President Evo
Morales praised Cuba"s
solidarity with other
countries, despite being
a blocked country, and
the fact that it has
granted over 5,000
scholarships for his
country"s students.
Meanwhile, Cuban
representative in the
summit, Pedro Nuñez
Mosquera, slammed
Washington"s decision of
continuing that
genocidal practice, in
spite of the UN demand
for its lifting two days
