Overtime Pay Disputes

More backlogs at the
Puerto de Limón will
continue after the Junta
de Administración
Portuaria y de
Desarrollo Económico de
la Vertiente Atlántica (Japdeva)
stopped paying dock
workers for overtime.
Japdeva is following an
order by the Contraloría
General de la República
(CGR) - Comptroller's
office - who ordered
overtime in four shifts
of six hours each.
However, Japdeva says it
doesn't have the
personnel and is only
operating three shifts.
The overtime situation
left a number of ships
without being unloaded
yesterday, one of which
was to supply the
Refinadora Costarricense
de Petróleo (Recope)
with propane gas.
José León Desanti,
president of Recope,
warned yesterday that if
the ship is not unloaded
the state refiney may
have to suspend the sale
of propane.
In addition, a ship
containing crude oil is
waiting to dock to be
unloaded.
According to Leroy Pérez,
spokesperson for
Sintrajap, the dock
workers union, the
dockworkers have
suspended work on
handling the hazardous
material unless the
overtime pay situation
is settled. |
