Strike At Psychiatric Hospital
What began as a strike of the janitorial staff three days ago, extended yesterday to all staff working at the Hospital Nacional Psiquiátrico, located in Pavas.

More than a 100 workers involving cleaning staff, nurses, maintenance, nutrition and security, insist that there is not sufficient staff for the number of patients and less prepared to give them proper attention.

The striking workers say that the majority of patients at the hospital represent a real danger to the workers, and thus are asking a pay raise as an incentive for them put their lives at risk on a daily basis.

The state hospital is run by the Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social (CCSS) which hopes to reach an agreement with the workers real soon and get the hospital back to functioning normally.
