Hits Back at Bush's
Accusation
Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez said Sunday
that U.S. President
George W. Bush was a
"terrorist" responsible
for "genocide."
Chavez made the remarks
on his weekly "Alo,
Presidente" television
and radio show, in
response to a Wednesday
speech in which Bush
charged him with
squandering Venezuela's
oil wealth on an
anti-American campaign,
and supporting
"terrorists" in
Colombia.
"The president of the
United States himself
has come out and
attacked us and attacked
me personally, calling
me a demagogue. Well, I
am calling him a
terrorist and
genocidal," he said.
Chavez also rejected
Bush's allegation that
Venezuelans are
suffering hunger, saying
that instead they are
"better fed than ever."
In the United States, by
contrast, there are 30
million poor people, he
added.
"The people taking hits
from their own
government are in the
United States, which has
an economic crisis,"
Chavez said.
