Semana Santa Underway -
What is Open and Not
All banks and most
businesses will be open
normal business hours
until Wednesday and then
be closed for the Semana
Santa (Easter week)
holidays until Sunday,
re-opening business as
usual on Monday.
All state and private
banks report normal
business hours for
Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday, closed
Thursday, Frida,
Saturday and Sunday.
Some bank branches
inside retail stores
like PriceSmart and
Hipermás will be open on
Saturday and Sunday but
with limited services.
Automated Teller
Machines (ATM) will be
operating on a 24 hour
basis, as well the banks
say that their online
services will not be
interrupted for the
holidays.
When it comes to
government offices and
agencies, the Central
government, breaking
tradition for a second
year in a row, will
maintain all services on
normal working hours and
closed Thursday and
Friday. Central
government offices are
normally closed on
Saturday and Sunday.
Autonomous government
agencies like ICE, INS
will also be operating
normal until Wednesday
and closed Thursday and
Friday. Some ICE
agencies, however, may
stay open on Saturday,
ICE has yet to announce
which agencies will be
open and which not.
The immigration service
and embassies will also
follow the Central
government holiday hours
of working normal hours
until Wednesday and then
closed Thursday and
Friday.
Supermarkets, retail
stores and malls will be
open all week closing
early on Thursday and
Friday.
Business hours will vary
for many businesses,
some will be closed all
week, while others
working normal until mid
day Wednesday and then
closed until Monday. It
is best to call ahead
first.
All emergency services
will be operating on a
24 hours basis.
