Countdown To Eight Digits Continues
The countdown is now down to 4 days when Costa Rica moves to an eight digit telephone number system.

At 12:01am March 20, all telephone numbers in Costa Rica will be eight digits as the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) makes the change to allow for future expansion of services.

All residential and commercial phone (fixed) telephone lines will have the prefix "2" added before the current seven digit number and all cellular telephone lines will get an "8".

ICE says that all international operators have been notified of the change, allowing international callers to get through without any inconveniences with connecting to Costa Rica.
