Costa Rica Tops in
Tourism Competition
The image of Costa Rica
as a tourist destination
continues to go
unblemished, receiving
international
recognition and awards
from various
organizations.
The latest comes from
the Foro Económico
Mundial (World Economic
Forum) which ranks Costa
Rica in first place as
the most competitive
country in Latin America
when it comes to
tourism.
This is the second year
in a row for Costa Rica
to receive the number
one spot after the
Forum's Travel & Tourism
Competitiveness Report
2008, a review of some
130 countries. This year
six countries not on the
2007 report were added,
that included Puerto
Rico.
Switzerland, Austria and
Germany have the most
conducive environments
for developing the
travel and tourism
industry.
Overall, Costa Rica
placed 44th, beating
Brazil and Panama in
49th and 50th place
respectively, followed
by Chile (51), Mexico
(55). Argentina (58),
Uruguay (61), Dominican
Republic (663),
Guatemala (68), Colombia
(71), Nicaragua (99),
and Venezuela (103).
