Colombian President Lied
to Ecuador, Says Correa
Ecuadorean President
Rafael Correa said that
his Colombian peer
Alvaro Uribe has been
misinformed or lied
"bare-facedly" about the
blatant aggression
towards Ecuador.
"We are going to carry
this to its logical
conclusion so that this
scandalous incident,
which is an aggression
to our territory and our
homeland, is duly
clarified," Correa
stressed Saturday night
in a press conference
referring to clashes
between Colombian forces
and guerrillas in
Ecuadorean soil.
He explained that
reports from Ecuadorean
military officers, who
visited the area where
the alleged clash
supposedly occurred
(1.24 miles from the
common border), revealed
that there was no such a
"combat."
President Uribe "was
either misinformed or he
lied bare-facedly to the
President of Ecuador,"
said Correa, who
demanded "convincing
explanation that Uribe
has been misinformed."
It has surprisingly been
established that there
was no clash there, as
the FARC (Revolutionary
Armed Forces of
Colombia) guerrillas
were bombed and
massacred while
sleeping, he indicated.
"It seems that they used
state-of-the-art
technology to track the
FARC group at night,
undoubtedly with foreign
power assistance," he
stressed.
Correa explained that
the Ecuadorean patrol
found that there was a
temporal camp of the
Colombian guerrilla in
Ecuadorean territory,
and that national air
space was invaded to
bomb the site and kill
these 17 guerrillas
while sleeping.
It is a true blow to the
civilized relation
friendly, bordering
countries should
maintain, he said,
adding that steps will
be taken to prevent any
such thing from
happening again.
In this regard,
Ecuadorean Defense
Minister Wellington
Sandoval said Ecuadorean
forces are on alert
today in areas bordering
Colombia to repel any
