Emigration Rises in
Honduras
Emigration of women and
children in Honduras is
getting bigger
particularly children
without company,
affirmed executive
secretariat of Honduras
National Migration Forum
Edith Zavala.
The official said that
migration is being
transformed since family
union has been rescued
but in inadequate
conditions.
Zabala explained that
children left back are
looking for how to reach
where their parents are
and leave the country by
any means exposing
themselves to any
danger.
I lamented that many
times the migrant is
being seen as a hero
because he sends
remittances to his
country.
But migration is due to
the fact that most of
the population in
Honduras does not have
job opportunities that
allow them to have
access to basic services
like health and
education, emphasized
Zabala.
Official figures noted
that 88 percent of
Honduran migrants are
male and 12 percent
female but between
2006and 2001 an
important increase of
seven percent of migrant
women was reported.
According to Zabala the
country's social
potential is migrating
and the biggest problem
is that the government
does nothing to avoid
it. The issue is going
out of their hands. |
