Ortega: Nicaragua Will
Fund Farmers
Nicaraguan president,
Daniel Ortega, offered
unconditional funds for
farmers during an event
in Nueva Segovia, on the
border with Honduras.
During an activity in
Jalapa, one of the 11
departments of the
country, commemorating
the 29th anniversary of
liberation and popular
triumph over the Somoza
tyranny, Ortega
expressed that his
government is working to
re-establish a
productive program.
In his speech the
president explained that
funds will begin to
arrive through the ALBA-Caruna
bank and will have low
interest rates.
Economic growth of the
liberal governments, he
pointed out, only
reached the rich and the
poor only grew in
illiteracy.
He explained that
resources are necessary
to increase production
and called on small
financing institutions
to renegotiate with the
people.
"We have accumulated
poverty created by
neoliberal governments
and need a new model
without loan sharks,
that is truly democratic
and revolutionary," he
added.
"The production bank is
already created. The
next step is to choose
the board of directors
and begin work with a
small fund of 35 million
cordobas," he explained.
He further added that
only the workers and
farmers go all the way
to the end. “We are
facing a new dawn in
Latin America, where
victories of the people
are growing,” he
stressed. |
