Some 2 Tons Of Cocaine Floating At Sea in Puntarenas
Authorities fear that the cocaine thrown in the waters of Puntarenas by drug runners could result in a wave of crimes and murders for the drug.

The Puntarenas detachment of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) is calling on residents not to recover any of the drugs found floating or to store the drugs found on the beach.

The drugs are part of some 2 tons of cocaine that suspected Colombian drug runners threw in the water near the Isla Negritas, in Puntarenas, before the Costa Rican coast guard intercepted their boat, confiscating some 2.5 million tons of the white powder.

Authorities say that just holding or trying to sell the found drugs could mean death, fearing that the drug runners won't think twice about shooting first and asking questions later when it comes to recovering their lost merchandise.

The OIJ is asking residents of Puntarenas to call authorities if they find or see a packet of drugs floating in the water. So far the OIJ says it has recovered 60kgs in barrio El Cocal.

"We are giving the recollection of drugs a priority", said the ministra de Seguridad Pública, Janina Del Vecchio.
