Indigenous Kill "Sorcerer" For Fear Of Spells
Two indigenous men beat an alleged sorcerer to death because they were convinced he had performed a spell on some of their relatives.

The crime happened Sunday in an area held by indigenous people in Coto Brus, in the southern zone Costa Rica.

Two brothers were reportedly arrested by police in connection with the case of the death of the alleged sorcerer Joaquín Bejarano Bejarano.

Brothers Seferino García Bejarano and Rubén said they were tired of the behaviour of the sorcerer and decided to go to his house and kill him in cold blood.

The brothers beat the sorcerer to death, bashing in his brains with repeated blows to the head.

Another version being handled by police is that the brothers of the sorcerer also took part in the killing, though trying to fend off the attackers.

Bloodied and appearing happy of their act, they walked an hour through the mountains of the area to the neigbours house, telling their story and without remorse.

The two men did not deny the murder to authorities and now will be spending the next four months in preventive detention while investigators put the pieces of the crime together.
