Social Cohesion Council in Guatemala
The Colom government is to inform people on Monday about priorities and tasks of the recently created Council of Social Cohesion in Guatemala.

The entity's aim is to coordinate investments of the State's public benefits, and will be made up of Ministries of Education, Public Health, and the Secretaries of Food and Social Works.

The Council was created last week and its activities will be coordinated by the president's wife Sandra Torres.

One of the first programs is the monetary transference to low-income families so their children can go to school, instead of sending them to work, as occurs in rural areas.

According to the 100-day program of the new constitution, the country expects to grant about 25,000 credits in the 41 poorest municipalities of Guatemala to generate jobs.

This week the president will call a national dialogue with all social sectors with the aim of analyzing the country's main problems and ways to go ahead with his government plan.

In his inauguration speech January 14, Colom promised to start a process of change to a social-democratic government that fights poverty and insecurity.
