Honduras Considers Joining Petrocaribe
Honduras' entry into the Latin American energy cooperation initiative PETROCARIBE is under analysis by its unicameral National Congress for approval Monday.

Honduran Presidential Minister Enrique Flores said that the Executive offered to send authorities from the Honduran Central Bank and the Finance Ministry, among others, to the congressional analysis.

"We are convinced that Petrocaribe is completely beneficial for the people of Honduras," said Flores, who regarded the proposal of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias as an opportunity for Honduras to pay for fuel with goods and services.

Petrocaribe makes it possible for poor countries without their own fuel sources to receive oil at preferential prices and soft financing conditions.

Honduras was accepted as the 17th member country in Petrocaribe, which was founded in 2005, during the fourth Petrocaribe Summit.
