U.S. Fugitive Sought in
Northern Zone
Agents of the Organismo
de Investigación
Judicial (OIJ) took the
first steps yesterday to
apprehend the U.S.
fugitive, Daniel Andreas
San Diego an animal
rights activist, sought
in the bombings of two
California drug and
cosmetic companies in
2003, and may be living
in Costa Rica according
to statement released by
the U.S. Embassy in San
José.
The OIJ Cañas office
said it has received
information from two
confidential sources
that San Diego has been
spotted in the area of
Bijauga de Upala, in the
northern zone.
OIJ officials said they
visited the posada (Inn)
where San Diego is
believed to be staying
but found no sight of
the man and the owner of
the inn told police he
did not keep a guest
register.
One area resident called
police of his sighting
of San Diego, however,
other residents told OIJ
officials that they did
not know San Diego or if
he is among them.
The alert of San Diego
possibly being in Costa
Rica came from the U.S.
embassy in San José on
Tuesday and the FBI is
offering a us$250.000
reward for his capture.
OIJ officials visiting
Bijagua said that they
had heard talk of a
party being organized
for San Diego, however,
his whereabouts are
still a mystery and
Costa Rican authorities
are warning of the
danger the man poses.
Costa Rica is a
favourite spot for many
fugitives, known for its
beauty, quiet pace of
life and most important,
the ability to live
privately, especially in
rural areas. |
