Honduras: US Defends
Terror, Posada
HAVANA - Honduras
President Manuel Zelaya
accused the United
States of defending
terrorists and not
trying Luis Posada
Carriles, an ex CIA
agent with extensive
criminal actions.
Posada Carriles, who
lives in Miami, is
accused of being
responsible for the
explosion in mid-air of
a Cuban airplane in 1976
that killed 73 people.
He also led a plot to
assassinate Cuban leader
Fidel Castro in Panama,
Granma newspaper
reported.
Zelaya noted that eight
days before his
investiture in January
2006, the then US
ambassador to
Tegucigalpa Charles Ford
requested his government
to grant political
asylum to Posada
Carriles.
President Zelaya told
Honduran HRN station
that, "I said it was
impossible to give
diplomatic asylum to
Posada Carriles (…),
when he was a man
seriously questioned
worldwide for terrorist
actions and the United
States defends this kind
of terrorism."
