Six Governments Confirm
Anti-Drug Summit
Attendance
Six heads of government
have confirmed
attendance to the
Regional Summit on
Drugs, Safety and
Cooperation to be held
in Cartagena de Indias,
Colombia.
The summit on Caribbean,
Central America,
Colombia, Mexico and
Venezuela cooperation
will be attended by
Presidents of Mexico, El
Salvador, Guatemala,
Panama, and the
Dominican Republic,
Felipe Calderon, Elias
Antonio Saca, Alvaro
Colom, Martin Torrijos,
and Leonel Fernandez,
respectively, including
host Alvaro Uribe.
Colombian officials
reported that Venezuelan
Minister of Interior and
Justice Ramon Rodriguez
Chapin would represent
his nation in the
summit.
The summit aims at
strengthening
cooperation and
coordination to fight
drug trafficking in the
area, promote joint
solutions, and comply
with the regional
nations' commitment to
abide by the objectives
of the 20th UN
Extraordinary Session
Period Declaration.
The Declaration of
Cartagena will be signed
during the last session
of the meeting, which
will draft the
cooperation plan for
2009 and 2010.
