Nicaragua: Gioconda Belli's Recent Work
"El infinito en la palma de la mano" (Infinity in the Palm of Her Hand), allegory about Adam and Eve in paradise, part of the award winner work of the Nicaraguan writer Gioconda Belli will be launched and easily accessible for every public in Nicaragua.

The newest creation of Belli, winner of 2008 Biblioteca Breve Award, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary, consisting of 30,000 (approximately 44,135 dollars) and the publication of the work by Seix Barral in Spain, is an imaginary history of the first ever existing man, according to the author.

Belli pointed out that this work in specific was an unexpected discovery and that it had to pass on things people don't know about what had happened to Adan and Eva after they were threw out of the Garden of Eden.

During the launching of the book, carried out at the bookstore El Parnaso, the writer emphasized her interest of vindicating Eva from the beginning in her work.

The myth of Adam and Eva is very important, because it marks the identity of women like the temptress, the sinner, and it was a pleasure for my, like a woman, to have the possibility of vindicating her, she pointed out.

Belli, born in Managua, published her first work in 1970, the year she joined the Sandinista Front of National Liberation. She was forced into exile and lived in Mexico and Costa Rica.

Belli has received many awards for her works, including the Mariano Fiallos Gil Prize for "Sobre la Grama" (On the Grass), the Casa de las Americas Prize for her book of poems "Fuego de linea" (Firing Line), and the Premio de Bibliotecarios, Editores y Libreros (Librarians, Publishers, and Booksellers' Award) for "La mujer habitada" (The Inhabited Woman).
