Cuba, Russia Strengthen
Economic Ties
Russian Transportation
Minister Igor Levitin's
four-day visit to Cuba,
which concluded
Thursday, has helped
strengthen economic ties
between the two
countries, Cuban Foreign
Minister Felipe Perez
Roque said.
Levitin arrived here to
attend the 8th session
of the
Inter-governmental
Cuba-Russia Commission
For Economic-Trade and
Scientific-Technical
Collaboration, which
closed Wednesday.
The meeting was
successful, Levitin
said.
After meeting with
Levitin, Perez Roque
said that prospects of
increased trade, aerial
communication and
tourism cooperation with
Russia look promising.
"Relations between Cuba
and Russia are in a new
phase, characterized by
a permanent and ample
political dialogue,"
said Perez Roque.
He added that "there is
a reciprocal and common
interest to promote
bilateral ties at a time
when we have found the
way to develop economic
ties, and new
opportunities of mutual
interest arise."
Levitin also met with
Cuban leader Raul Castro
and they established
priorities and
underlined the main
tasks of promoting
exchange in tourism,
transportation, culture,
biotechnology,
communications,
pharmaceutics and
sports, among other
fields.
Levitin also held talks
with the Cuban ministers
for transportation,
communications, foreign
trade, economic
investments and
