Casinos
The US smells big money
in Panama's casinos due
to the us$485 million
income registered from
January to July and is
preparing to accuse them
of money laundering.
In an effort to shun the
accusation, the owners
of 15 casinos and 27
gambling machine halls
operating nationwide
will run operations with
computers to show more
transparent ledgers.
A related source says
all 12 games of chance
businesses purchased
computers to control
large bets and
transactions and issue
reports faster.
The technology will help
report the suspects to
the Unidad de Analisis
Financiero and Junta de
Control de Juegos and
circulate them on the
Internet almost
immediately, said
Antonio Alfaro,
president of the
Asociacion de
Administradores de
Juegos de Azar.
Annual reports are made
on hand and the process
takes near 30 days to
reach the authorities
that must still approve
