Intelligent Traffic
Lights To Be Working in
Five Weeks
The intelligent traffic
lights are to stay dumb
for at least another
five weeks, according to
Semáforos Mexicanos (Semex),
the company with the
contract to install the
new system.
The intelligent traffic
lights were to have been
in operation earlier
this month, however, a
robbery of the central
computer on October 7
delayed the
implementation.
The Ministra interina de
Obras Públicas y
Transportes, Viviana
Martín, confirmed that
while Costa Rica was in
the midst of the
referendum vote, a group
broke in to the central
control room and stole
the server.
The theft, according to
Martín, occurred in the
early hours of October
7, referendum day in
Costa Rica, by a group
of persons who passed
themselves off as
employees of Semex and
in a very professional
way foiled security
officials and made off
with the expensive
equipment.
Martín added that the
cost of the robbery is
being paid by every
Costa Rican who will not
only have to make up the
cost of the server
valued at us$10.200
dollars, plus the cost
of installation and
other items, but in
delays in reducing
traffic congestion in
