Recover Vision
Nearly 10,000
Nicaraguans have
recovered sight in an
ophthalmological centre
assisted since May by
Cuban physicians, Luis
Carlos Avila, chief of
the island's medical
brigade, stated.
According to the
official, an event will
take place Thursday
night on the outskirts
of the clinic located in
Ciudad Sandino, 9.3
miles northeast of this
capital.
The hospital was opened
in late April by
President Daniel Ortega
and is part of the
Vision Now project
created to support six
million Latin Americans
to recover sight within
10 years.
The initiative is
boosted by Cuba and
Venezuela as part of the
Bolivarian Alternative
for the Americas, of
which Nicaragua and
Bolivia are also
members.
The Cuban health
collaboration also
includes the opening of
two field hospitals in
Waspam and Muelle de los
Bueyes, located in the
north and south of the
Nicaraguan territory. |
