Brazilians top list of most time spent online
Brazilian residential Internet users in April
spent the longest time surfing the web in the
world, breaking their own record registered in
March, said a survey released on Tuesday.
The survey, conducted by firm IBOPE/NetRatings,
found that each Brazilian home user spent at
least 21 hours and 44 minutes on the web in
April, up 3.9 percent from 20 hours and 55
minutes in March, the highest monthly result
verified in the country since September2000.
Brazil has presented an average annual rise of
11.8 percent in the amount of time its citizens
spend connected to the Internet.
Among other countries where the survey was
conducted, U.S. users spent 18 hours and 49
minutes online. France came third with18 hours
and 32 minutes; Spain, 18 hours and 30 minutes;
Japan, 17hours and 39 minutes; Australia, 17
hours and 38 minutes.
The number of Brazilians with residential
Internet access was 25 million in April, while
the number of citizens with any type of access
rose 0.8 percent last month, from 32.9 million
to 33.15 million.
The survey also found that the rise in surfing
time was more significant when it came to some
specific content. Websites related to housing
and fashion are the most popular among
Brazilians while the ones on family and
lifestyle came second.
