Honduras Rains Death, Isolation
The intense rains of the last
three days left two deaths and
25,000 missing people in 16
communities of eastern Honduras,
official sources reported.
Juan Carlos Elvir, Permanent
Commission of Contingencies
head, said that the
precipitations are between 40
and 45 millimeters per day and
have caused great damage in that
area of the country.
The Poteca river rose and
destroyed extensive grain crops
around 35 El Paraiso villages.
The continuous rains also caused
landslides along the main road
to Nicaragua and left the
streets and avenues of San Pedro
Sula northern city flooded for
six hours.
The cold front has dissipated,
stated weather reports.
Two weeks before, the radio
station RHN said a similar
atmospheric phenomenon killed
two people, with 100,000
disappeared and hundreds
evacuated.
