ICE to Start Up Six Cellular
Base Stations
ICE's telecommunications
services division has unveiled
that six new cellular base
stations will start up in
various communities in Costa
Rica on 01 May.
The stations will boost GSM
cellular coverage in Costa Rica,
in an effort to improve cellular
reception problems experienced
by more than the 1 million GSM
subscribers.
The stations are in La Ribera de
Belen and other communities, and
cover sections of highways.
Between December 2006 and
February 2007, seven cellular
base stations were installed and
started up.
Ericsson was given the contract
to carry out the construction
work after ICE rescinded the
contract it had with ALCATEL,
the provider of the first
400.000 GSM cellular lines, the
lines with the most reception
problems.
