Early Morning Fire Destroys Downtown Hotel
An early morning fire in downtown San José woke up a number of sleeping guests in the El Campesino hotel.

The fire engulfed the second floor of the structure, causing damage to 80% of the building located on Calle 8 on the north side of Avenida Central.

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and fortunately there were no fatalities reported.

Investigators believe the fire was set deliberately, as the manager of the hotel recalls one of the guests coming to the front desk at 5:30am, dropping off his key and telling there was a fire in his room, allowing the manager time to evacuate the rest of the guests.
