Colombia
Buys US Combat Helicopters
Colombian authorities signed an agreement to
purchase 25 Black Hawk combat helicopters for
national defense and to combat drug traffic,
reported the Sikorsky Aircraft company.
This purchase is through the US Army that
promotes what is known as the Colombia Plan to
combat progressive movements and drug
trafficking.
The Sikorsky Aircraft helicopters are used by 26
countries for military operations, medical
assistance and rescue during natural disasters.
The United States supplied Bogota authorities
with more than three billion dollars as part of
the Colombia Plan, which has a strong military
component.
Some media denounced that the project is used by
Washington as a means of strengthening its
presence in the South American Amazon region.
