Chile, Canada sign
agreement on sharing
geographical information
The governments of Chile
and Canada on Thursday
signed an agreement on
sharing geographical
information at La Moneda
Palace, Chile's seat of
government, diplomatic
sources said.
Romy Schmit, Chile's
National Assets
Minister, and Gary Lunn,
visiting Canadian
natural resources
minister, signed the
agreement at a ceremony
attended by Foreign
Ministry representatives
from both nations.
Schmit said the plan was
part of the work to link
Chile to the
International
Geo-Spatial Data
Infrastructure
Community, which will in
turn allow the nation to
develop geographic
information distribution
applications.
The agreement opens the
way for scientific and
technological exchanges
between both countries
and for bilateral
swapping of information
on natural resources,
environment, property,
investment and public
works, said the sources.
