US Interference in
Venezuela Unacceptable:
La Jornada
The interference of the
US in Venezuelan
domestic affairs
constitutes an
unacceptable attempt of
rejecting the principle
of free determination of
peoples, Mexican paper
La Jornada affirms
Sunday.
An editorial of the
paper indicates it is
being done with a view
to impose on that
country a neoliberal
model, despite not
meeting the needs or
interests of the
Venezuelan people.
La Jornada adds that the
latent threat of an
attack aimed at
overthrowing the legally
constituted government
of Venezuela is put into
perspective.
It begins with a false
defense of democracy
like in Iraq, but it
involves illegal and
deeply undemocratic
aspirations, because in
addition to the control
of oil, it wants to
demolish a government
not bowing to
Washington, it adds.
La Jornada paper
explains that
Venezuelans should weigh
the risks that the
interventionist spirit
of the US implies for
the sovereignty of their
nation.
On the other hand, it
emphasizes that the US
government should not
ignore the warning made
by President Hugo Chavez
on the immediate
cancellation of oil
supplies to that country
in case it sabotages the
referendum on the
constitutional reform.
It emphasizes the US
receives from Venezuela
11 percent of the oil it
consumes, indispensable
amount to maintain the
largest economy of the
planet, fuel that
Caracas could sell to
China or India.
What is desirable is
that the vote of
Venezuelans (regarding
the referendum of
constitutional reforms)
be respected, because
they are the only ones
to decide the destiny of
that State, it
