The Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICR) - Costa Rican Tourism Institute-  has produced a safety card for tourists that lists a 24-hour hotline to report problems or get tips about travel around the country.

The hotline number is 800-TOURISM (868 7476) or 800-TURISMO (887 4766).

The "tourism" line is answered in English, while the "turismo" line in Spanish.

The hours or attention are 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday to Friday; 10:00am to 4:00pm Saturdays; and 8:00am to 8:00pm on Sundays.

The back of the card has a list of emergency phone numbers, including those of many foreign embassies.

The card is being distributed at  Juan Santamaria (San Jose) International Airport.
