Yea, well, let’s see how good those trade agreements are when the USD goes down the tubes in the coming years. Although corruption is what may be hurting the current LatAm countries right now who did not sign up for it (and, oh, China, too) perhaps they (and their businesses) will be happy later. Only time will tell.

Oppenheimer is blowing hot air, as in right wing brain fart. He is fantasizing out loud about the impending doom of all populist governments. I think he wet himself writing that article.
Other countries will continue to sell their crap to each other. I doubt the US will impose export duties on their stuff.
Indonesia will sell lace underwear to Venezuela and Brazil will sell their Brazil nuts to Canada.

Does it make a big difference? ………..head scratching……….head scratching……No, no it doesn’t because importing crap from Canada is not any easier than the US and the exemption you may enjoy on maple syrup and ice cubes wont amount to much in the structure of this economy.
CR has a massive industry in the agencias aduanal and the whole customs thing in general and they may let in some crap here and there otherwise it is an industry in its own right and they reason that there is no advantage to letting in things untaxed
