July 30th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) After initial confusion, an official with the Interpol section of Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) told Inside Costa Rica today on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to comment on the matter that a Canadian man arrested on an Interpol arrest warrant in Tamarindo, Guanacaste over the weekend is 36-year-old Michel Emond.
The official told Inside Costa Rica that he was aware of the confusion surrounding the identity of the suspect due to similarities in appearance, but assured the newspaper that the subject in question is indeed 36-year-old Emond, from Quebec, Canada.
Emond is wanted on charges related to the production of methamphetamine and organized crime. Initial reports that indicated the subject in custody was wanted on charges of homicide were also incorrect.
Emond is being held in the San Sebastian Prison in the capital city of San Jose. The official said Emond would be handed over to Canadian authorities shortly.
