January 30th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale according to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) shook much of the country when it struck at 7:40pm on Wednesday evening near Aguirre, Puntarenas.
The quake was felt throughout San José and the Central Valley, as well as Quepos, Manuel Antonio, Playa Coyol, San Ramon, Cartago, Heredia, Turrialba, and Puriscal, amongst other locations.
Some residents reported on social networks that the quake was accompanied by the sound of a “boom.”
An hour and 40 minutes later, a second quake measuring 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck nearby Golfito.
There were no reports of injury or damage.
