July 19th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A massive hole of about 100 feet in diameter and about 30 feet deep has swallowed a section of roadway on Route 142 in Nuevo Arenal after a powerful rainstorm.
Conavi was previously building a retaining wall at the site.
The hole is on the section of roadway between Nuevo Arenal and La Fortuna, in front of the Gingerbread restaurant.
Officials say repairs could take between 15 and 22 days.
Among alternative routes through the area, motorists can take Route 734 to Las Delicias and Route 4, though it is important to note that a section of the route is only passable with a 4×4 vehicle.
