April 11th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) A 33-year-old woman from Perez Zeledon, identified by the last name Granados, died at 10pm Tuesday night at the San Juan de Dios Hospital, apparently the victim of substances which were injected in her buttocks at a cosmetic clinic in downtown San Jose.
The press office of the hospital confirmed that the young woman died of infections.
Granados underwent surgery in the private clinic, where a doctor was supposed to take belly fat and inject it into her buttocks, but it seems as though another substance was also added.
Andrea de la Cruz, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said the woman was receiving daily procedures to cure her infections, but her condition deteriorated over the weekend.
Doctors even considered amputating one of the woman’s legs at the hip, due to the amount of bacteria that had accumulated in the area.
The hospital alerted police following the woman’s death, calling her death “suspicious.”
This latest incident comes after a former model accused a doctor in Santa Ana of deforming her buttocks by injecting it with industrial silicone in January.
It turned out that the clinic in that case did not even have a license to conduct surgeries, nor was the doctor a plastic surgeon.
