Shootout in Cartago hospital emergency room

max peralta hospital

CARTAGO, COSTA RICA – October 4th, 2012 – According to the preliminary version, two men ran inside the CCSS Max Peralta Hospital in Cartago yesterday, one a supposed robbery victim. Once inside, the supposed victim of the robbery began shooting at the other man, who apparently was the thief.  The other man reacted by pulling his own firearm, as well.

The Fuerza Publica were able to detain both men, and say they will investigate the cause of the event. OIJ collected evidence from the scene.

Fortunately, despite the fact that many were surprised and left in a state of shock, no injuries were reported, and the hospital is now functioning normally.

According to Maria Morales, spokeswoman for the hospital, the main emergency entrance door is temporarily closed. However, the hospital is receiving patients through a side door.

“After the incident, we have continued to receive patients through a side door, services have not been suspended, and are working as normal,” she added.
