Regulator Approves Hike in Electricity

Customers of the Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL) will be paying 6.22% more for electricity following a rate hike approval by the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep).

The rake hike that affects some 500.000 customers is below the 9% requested by the utility.

The hike means an additional ¢1.000 colones, pushing up the cost of ¢15.750 for the consumption of 250 kilowatt hours, which will take effect beginning the next month's billing cycle.
