The body of a recent University of South
Florida graduate has been discovered off the
coast of Costa Rica. The university says the
United States Embassy in Costa Rica
confirmed that his body washed ashore Monday
night near where he was swimming.
Aly Lakdawala, 21, was in Costa Rica as a
volunteer with International Volunteer HQ
where he helped out at an orphanage and with
turtle conservation.
Lakdawala's uncle, Razzaq Fauzan, told CBS4
News on Saturday he was swimming with three
friends in the Pacific Ocean when they were
hit by a giant wave.
The three friends made it out, but Lakdawala
did not.
A majority of the students on the trip came
home Monday night; others will return
Tuesday evening.
Lakdawala had graduated two weeks ago with a
double major in international studies and
philosophy and was planning to go to law
school.
Lakdawala's father flew to Costa Rica to
search for his son along with a private
company, the Coast Guard and the Red Cross.
